I’m not keen on comic book hero films, as most people who know me already know. But everyone’s been raving about how good The Dark Knight Rises is, so thought I’d give it a go.
I haven’t seen the previous ones in this trilogy, which are allegedly better, but the story picks up with a ‘disabled’ Bruce Wayne [Christian Bale], living a life of solitude in his huge mansion. A maid [Anne Hathaway] is instructed by Alfred [Michael Caine] to take his dinner up to a room and leave it. But she snoops around and is caught by Wayne. She manages to escape out of a window, and it transpires she has stolen a necklace from the safe. This is Catwoman’s introduction.
Meantime, Wayne’s venture to harness fusion power is in danger of falling in to the wrong hands and becoming a nuclear weapon. Some baddies are making mischief around town and succeed in bringing Batman out of hiding.
Well, I wasn’t that impressed. Found it quite tedious in places. And Batman’s rule of ‘no guns’ left me looking for “POW” and “HOLY COW” bubbles as in the old TV series.
I’ll continue to have reservations about this type of film. Finding it hard to be impressed.
